New Build:  The mayor of Regina, Pat Fiacco mentioned Regina Youth for Christ Uturn home in his state of the city address yesterday as one of the positive youth programs in the city.

Delayed Again!  With no power yet we will have to delay our possession to April 2012!

Moose Jaw:  We are still looking to add people to our steering committee in Moose Jaw.  Please pray.  We continue to have a full house in MJ continue to pray for our team as they move these youth to independent.

 Regina: As you work with Kids at risk we have many celebrations and challenges on a daily basis.  This weekend we have to evict a young man who continued to push our grace, so after the second chance he was sent home.  We also added 2 new youth this week who seem to be fitting in nicely.

Jedidiah House: A home for youth 12-16 in the communities of Regina and The Battlefords.

Regina: We are hosting 3 young men at Jed house. Please pray as we look for a new house mom starting in March 2012.

The Battlefords: This week our steering committee in Battleford met to discuss how to support the Jedidiah home and the staff better.  Henry, our first nation staff who was assaulted last month continues be a great asset to the team.  Henry told a steering committee member how much his heart has grown for the young man who assaulted him!  God is at work.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS:

 Community Center:  We are looking at a Regina church in the city that is for sale we could turn into a ministry/community center.   The vision for the building would be a home for the Lamb’s Boxing club, a worship center, community hall/gym and office space.   The board has given permission to pursue some options.  Please pray for wisdom.

 Lamb’s Boxing Club: Aaron found a used boxing ring for the club.  Please pray for him as he travels to pick it up.  This will be a huge help in training our youth to box.

The Match:  On February 24, 2012.  We are working with Aline ministries and Souls Harbour to do a youth outreach.  Lamb’s Boxing will be hosting the event.

Mondays are sports drop in- we had over 30 youth involved on Monday.

 Dimension4- D4 is our noon hour school program to discuss life issues around faith and build mentor relationships with youth.  Currently we are meeting at Thom High school on a weekly basis.  Please pray for our team as we connect with youth in need of positive mentors in their lives.

Gymblast: Jimmy was sick yesterday.  That gave me a chance to lead a GB.  It was great to watch the kids at Harvest City Academy work together, and build team work.  Today Jimmy is travelling to Ituna Sk for a GB.

California Breakaway:  Continue to pray for our Saskatoon YFC team as they prepare.  They are hoping take over 100 youth to California from April 5-15, 2012.

Careers/ Volunteer Positions:

Regina Houseparents:  We are looking for 2-3 sets of house parents to bring love and support to young men and women in our Uturn homes starting April 1, 2012.  We are looking for spiritually mature couples (without children in the home) to be full-time House Parents and 2 couples to provide weekend respite.  Training is provided. Regional Staff Conference:  We are thankful for a great three days together with the YFC family at Dallas Valley Ranch Camp.    The Regina YFC team did an amazing job hosting and serving our fellow missionaries from YFC.  Boyd Hopkins, from Saskatoon- Spoken Work Ministries, challenged us in the areas of confession, temptation and living daily with Christ.

Host Family found: a German YFC Volunteer: We are excited about the Abbot Family willingness to take Christian.  He will be arriving on March 1, 2012 and staying to August 15, 2012.

Jedidiah House:  There continues to be progress made in the lives of the youth who God has entrusted us.  We often see bright spots in the lives of these young people and we trust God to continue to work in the hearts of these young people.

MJ Uturn: Living with “youth with promise” continues to force our team to cast themselves on the Mercy of Christ.  We know the only hope for these kids is the light of Christ in their lives.  Please pray for these young men.

Uturn Build: The flooring and cabinets have been chosen for the new Uturn homes.   They will be doing the priming and paining starting next week.  Saskpower still has not come to trench the power. We are using a generator to keep the furnaces running.    We hope to open March 31, 2012 with the 2 basement suites open July 2012.

The Battlefords:  Drop In Center: We are in discussion/planning with a local church in Battleford who has a youth center building.  They are interested in YFC operating a drop-in center in their building.  Please pray for a Drop In Manager who can lead this important program.

The Battlefords Floor Hockey Ministry:  We are working with a local Reserve to start a Friday Nigh Floor Hockey ministry in their community.  Please pray as we find volunteers to serve in this program.

 Uturn: This Christmas season has been hard on our youth.  We had one young man’s family tell him they did not want him around at Christmas.  The spiritual battles are fierce in the homes.  Please pray for our house parents as they are on front lines of spiritual battle.  We also had 2 youth leave Uturn over Christmas.  Please pray as we interview new youth this week.

MJ Uturn: Uturn MJ lost 2 youth over the Christmas break but added a new girl this week.  Continue to pray for our house parents and youth as they serve these young people with deep hurts.

Uturn Build: We are still waiting on Saskpower to get the power trenched.  We hope to have the power on soon so we can get the heat on!   They are dry walling this week.  We hope to open March 31, 2012 with the 2 basement suites open July 2012.

The Battlefords:  The first Christmas with youth went rather smooth and we are looking forward to having the house full in the coming weeks.  Please pray for community outreach opportunities we hope to get started in the coming weeks.

Staff: We are excited about new staff joining our team in the next few months.  We have a new Community Recreation Director from New Zealand starting in February and our German YFC Volunteer joining us in March.

School ministry:  A 2011 survey was done in Regina by the United Way found out that only 25% of youth have an caring adult mentor in their life.  We want to change that at YFC! Over the next few months we are looking to increase our reach with school outreach over the next few months.  We are looking to be more consistent in connecting with youth.

Uturn: God continues to bring us young people who need the love of God in their lives.  We have youth struggling with deep hurts and pain.  Please pray God will continue to reveal HIS love and purpose in their lives.

Coldest Night of the Year: On Saturday February 25, 2012 we are hosting a fundraising run/walk (2.5km, 5km, or 10km) for youth homelessness in Regina.  We are hoping to raise $25,000 toward our Uturn Home but we need your help.  Are you willing to get a team of 5-8 runners/ walkers together?  Please contact Byron Toth at yfcbyron@gmail.com

Lamb’s Boxing Club:  On Monday nights at the Rescue Mission Youth centre Aaron and his team will be doing a sports night.  On Wednesdays Robert Rapply will be leading the “Hero’s program” to build life skills with youth.   We will be looking for volunteers to get involved.  If you are interested please contact Aaron Cross aaroncross100@gmail.com

Switchback: Last week, we encouraged our team to focus on the Christmas story in the midst of all the fun games and Christmas celebration. After the Christmas story was read a young lady gave her life to Christ after talking to a volunteer!  These are the special moments God gives us as we work with young people in our city!  If you are interested in getting involved contact Jimmy at jimmyschimmel@hotmail.com

Host Family wanted: a German YFC Volunteer: We are looking for a good family to host Christian from Germany.  Christian comes from a farming family, has a desire to serve God, and learn better English. There is a small honorarium to cover room/board.  Please contact James Clifford at James@yfcsask.com

Jedidiah House: The night before one boy left Jedidiah House.  Our staff were reading the bible and praying with him before bed.  He mentioned that he gave his heart to God and wanted to live for him!   Continue to pray for the Jedidiah House Regina.  The boys have been making poor choices and it is affecting everyone.  We have 2 boys transitioning home and we pray it will be a successful move.

Moose Jaw Satellite: We have raised over to $2000 of the $5000 to get a new one installed.  We are in need of a new furnace in Moose Jaw.  The old one is over 30 years old has not been keeping the house warm. MJ Uturn: Uturn continues to be full in Moose Jaw.  Our staff team are working out the system then need to make Uturn MJ successful.  Out staff continue to build strong relationships with the youth as they help these youth move toward independence.

Uturn Build: We are still waiting on Saskpower to get the power trenched.  We hope to have the power on next week so we can get the heat on!   We hope to open March 31, 2012 with the 2 basement suites open July 2012.

The Battlefords Satellite: The first week with youth in the house have gone well.  The training the staff received has prepared them well.   We will be getting more youth after Christmas.

Last week we met with a local church who would like to partner with YFC to help run a youth centre in town.  Please pray for wisdom as we grow the ministry in the Battlefords.

Regional Staff Conference:  Regina YFC is hosting the Central region conference at Dallas Valley Ranch Camp January 16-18.  We are expecting 50-70 people from across the prairies to join us.  Please pray this will be a time of encouragement and teaching.

School ministry:  Last week at Thom High school Byron brought his two year old son to day the Christmas story.  From the mouths of babes God’s truth will be known.  The team continues to see positive relationships built with youth.
